We are thrilled to announce a few additions to the Holiday Hootenanny lineup y’all! Our official statesman, multi-Grammy winner Jim Lauderdale, will be joining us once again! His sets have been quite a highlight each of the previous three years, and we’re grateful that he is able to return again for what promises to be another memorable set. Jim is a very successful songwriter in Nashville, having written songs performed by the likes of George Strait, the Dixie Chicks, Patty Loveless, and countless others. He also is co-host of the highly successful Buddy & Jim Show on Sirius/XM’s Outlaw Country. We are also pleased to welcome multi-Grammy winner and fiddling master Jason Carter (Del McCoury Band, Travelin’ McCourys) Also, please welcome Acoustic Syndicate’s own Steve “Big Daddy” McMurry as well as Jeff Sipe’s State Birds, featuring bassist extraordinaire Neal Fountain, guitarist Mike Seals (Jerry Douglas Band, Sierra Hull), and saxophonist Bryan Lopes.

Fast , elegant and beautiful, this dynamic quartet take musical flight together as “State Birds” (the name is a nod to Col. Bruce Hampton). With the lineup growing for the 9th Annual Holiday Hootenanny, this set promises to present some surprises for all of us!

The music is mesmerizing and delivered with joy and passion. The near telepathic communication is a result of years of chemistry together.
The bands’ roots go back to 1983 in Atlanta. Each of the band members played with Bruce Hampton for a spell and share a unique musical bond. Below is a video captured by good friend Ron Currens at Music On Main Street in 2018, enjoy!

Steve “Big Daddy” McMurry is a founding member, lead vocalist, guitarist & mandolin player of the amazing band, Little King recording artist Acoustic Syndicate. My history with this band goes all the way back to the first HarvestFest on October 10, 1998, and they are “still my favorite band after all these years!” Big Daddy’s friendship and comradery with just about everyone on this lineup only means the family vibe for this year’s Holiday Hoot is going to be felt by everyone in the room. The jams will be plentiful and the music joyous.

Stay tuned for the remainder of the lineup for the 9th Annual Holiday Hootenanny to come your way soon! PLEASE spread the good word, and get your tickets now if you know you can go! We’re going to have a nice-sized crowd this year, so dont’ be left out! Zambi!!

Jeff Sipe at 2nd Annual Holiday Hoot

Folks, the lineup is now complete for the 8th Annual Holiday Hootenanny, benefitting Atlanta Habitat for the sixth consecutive year! TDawg Presents is thrilled to bring the one and only Jeff Sipe (Apt. Q258) back into the Holiday Hootenanny mix! His many accolades include being a founding member of Col. Bruce Hampton’s legendary band the Aquarium Rescue Unit that also featured Oteil Burbridge, Jimmy Herring, Jeff Mosier, Count M’Butu, and Matt Mundy. He spent three years on the road with another one of my favorite bands, Leftover Salmon, and he was also a co-creator (along with the late great Ricky Keller) of the Zambiland Orchestra, a holiday extravaganza from which the Holiday Hootenanny is heavily influenced. This is Sipe’s fourth appearance in the Holiday Hootenanny and his first since 2013. I have to say that the rhythm section featuring Jeff Sipe & Richie Jones on drums/percussion and Kevin Scott & Evan Sarver on bass is as strong as it gets!

TDawg Presents is honored to bring back intact the horn section from last year’s show horns_holiday hootthat includes Joey “Papa J” Sommerville on trumpet, Bryan Lopes on saxophone, and Daniel Wytanis on trombone. A common link among these three incredible horn players is their love for and friendship with Col. Bruce, as all three participated in the Hampton 70 concert in May of 2017. I remember fondly in the mid-90’s heading to Smith’s Olde Bar on rainy & cold weeknights to see The Apartment Project perform. Lineup included Jeff Sipe, Bryan Lopes, Ricky Keller, Count M’Butu, and an amazing assortment of musicians.

Folks, we are going to have an incredible time on December 20 at the Variety Playhouse! If you know you are going, then go ahead and purchase your tickets! Remember, no service fee applied if you pop by the Variety Playhouse box office during normal business hours or on a show night. This one’s gonna blow the roof off the place!

If you’ve not seen Heather Gillis before, you are in for a treat! Check this video out from Pisgah Brewing in NC from September of 2017. Enjoy!

Final Lineup: Peter Rowan, Grammy-winner Jim Lauderdale, Larry Keel, Jeff Mosier, Heather Gillis, Jeff Sipe, Jason Carter (Del McCoury Band), Joey “Papa J” Sommerville, Bryan Lopes, Lyndsay Pruett (John Stickley Trio)Jared Womack (Grass is Dead), Kevin Scott, Evan Sarver, Richie Jones, Bobby Miller, Nick DiSebastian, Daniel Wytanis. Vassar & TDawgThe 8th Annual Atlanta Holiday Hootenanny is dedicated to the memory of the late great fiddler Vassar Clements, whose career spanned seven decades. Vassar performed alongside many musical luminaries, including Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Linda Ronstadt, Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, David Grisman, Stephane Grappelli, Dicky Betts, John Hartford, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Col. Bruce Hampton and so many more. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him and get to know him on a personal level. On a side note, Vassar first performed with Col. Bruce at HarvestFest in 1999. The WOW factor was in full effect needless to say as Vassar simply tore it up on “Time is Free” that also featured Barry Richman on guitar.

Please plan to join us on Thursday, December 20 for our “annual holiday party” that never fails to provide a WOW factor by the end, and rest assured this one will be no different!

Holiday Hootenanny Artist Profile ~ Count M’Butu

Count M'Butu

Advance tickets $25 ADV/$35 Day of Show

We are just two weeks out from what promises to be one of the finest concerts of the year, celebrating life, music, family, friendship, and charity. One artist whose talent, friendship and love of family is undeniable is Grammy-winning percussionist Count M’Butu. His return to the Holiday Hootenanny has been four years in the making. We in the Atlanta music community and the Col. Bruce army of fans, musicians, writers, promoters, and friends are overjoyed to have him back in our mix and a part of the Holiday Hoot! Part of legendary Col. Bruce Hampton & the Aquarium Rescue Unit in the early ’90s – in my eyes one of the greatest bands of all-time – as well as the Derek Trucks Band for many years after that, Count’s presence in the Atlanta music scene has a special place, and as a long-time friend of mine, I personally cannot WAIT to see him back on the Holiday Hootenanny stage! The video below is from the 2nd Annual edition of the Holiday Hoot, and features Count M’Butu SINGING Willie Nelson’s classic “Always On My Mind” with the help of some friends, about as real and genuine as it gets. Enjoy!
