Jeff Sipe at 2nd Annual Holiday Hoot

Folks, the lineup is now complete for the 8th Annual Holiday Hootenanny, benefitting Atlanta Habitat for the sixth consecutive year! TDawg Presents is thrilled to bring the one and only Jeff Sipe (Apt. Q258) back into the Holiday Hootenanny mix! His many accolades include being a founding member of Col. Bruce Hampton’s legendary band the Aquarium Rescue Unit that also featured Oteil Burbridge, Jimmy Herring, Jeff Mosier, Count M’Butu, and Matt Mundy. He spent three years on the road with another one of my favorite bands, Leftover Salmon, and he was also a co-creator (along with the late great Ricky Keller) of the Zambiland Orchestra, a holiday extravaganza from which the Holiday Hootenanny is heavily influenced. This is Sipe’s fourth appearance in the Holiday Hootenanny and his first since 2013. I have to say that the rhythm section featuring Jeff Sipe & Richie Jones on drums/percussion and Kevin Scott & Evan Sarver on bass is as strong as it gets!

TDawg Presents is honored to bring back intact the horn section from last year’s show horns_holiday hootthat includes Joey “Papa J” Sommerville on trumpet, Bryan Lopes on saxophone, and Daniel Wytanis on trombone. A common link among these three incredible horn players is their love for and friendship with Col. Bruce, as all three participated in the Hampton 70 concert in May of 2017. I remember fondly in the mid-90’s heading to Smith’s Olde Bar on rainy & cold weeknights to see The Apartment Project perform. Lineup included Jeff Sipe, Bryan Lopes, Ricky Keller, Count M’Butu, and an amazing assortment of musicians.

Folks, we are going to have an incredible time on December 20 at the Variety Playhouse! If you know you are going, then go ahead and purchase your tickets! Remember, no service fee applied if you pop by the Variety Playhouse box office during normal business hours or on a show night. This one’s gonna blow the roof off the place!

If you’ve not seen Heather Gillis before, you are in for a treat! Check this video out from Pisgah Brewing in NC from September of 2017. Enjoy!

Final Lineup: Peter Rowan, Grammy-winner Jim Lauderdale, Larry Keel, Jeff Mosier, Heather Gillis, Jeff Sipe, Jason Carter (Del McCoury Band), Joey “Papa J” Sommerville, Bryan Lopes, Lyndsay Pruett (John Stickley Trio)Jared Womack (Grass is Dead), Kevin Scott, Evan Sarver, Richie Jones, Bobby Miller, Nick DiSebastian, Daniel Wytanis. Bill Fleming, Matt Williams, Kevin Thomas, Emcee Wildman Steve

Vassar & TDawgThe 8th Annual Atlanta Holiday Hootenanny is dedicated to the memory of the late great fiddler Vassar Clements, whose career spanned seven decades. Vassar performed alongside many musical luminaries, including Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Linda Ronstadt, Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, David Grisman, Stephane Grappelli, Dicky Betts, John Hartford, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Col. Bruce Hampton and so many more. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him and get to know him on a personal level. On a side note, Vassar first performed with Col. Bruce at HarvestFest in 1999. The WOW factor was in full effect needless to say as Vassar simply tore it up on “Time is Free” that also featured Barry Richman on guitar.

Please plan to join us on Thursday, December 20 for our “annual holiday party” that never fails to provide a WOW factor by the end, and rest assured this one will be no different!

Time: Doors 7:30 PM / Showtime 8:30 PM

Y’all this is going to be quite a musical experience on Friday night at the Vista Room! High energy from the beautiful stage there is a given, so be sure you’re a part! Great food & drink menus offer up temptations for bites and libations, too. Strung Like A Horse has been on break for a little while and this is their first show back, so rest assured the fellas from Strung Like a Horse are gonna bring it! Expect a surprise sit-in or two 😉

Atlanta’s long-time king of the Cajun & Zydeco scene Hair of the Dog will really set the night on right, bringing a great blend of sounds to create an addictive Cajun/rock ball of joy. While the patriarch of the band, Atlanta folk legend Whit Connah, passed away almost two years ago, the band carries on in amazing fashion with his energy in tow and the next generation of family jumping on the stage. Always an amazing time! What a great combination of bands!

Here’s a video of Strung Like A Horse from May of this year at The Purple Fiddle in West Virginia. Enjoy!

~ THE HARVEST FAMILY HOOT IS A RAIN OR SHINE EVENT

================================================

Hoot_NightAs we get closer to THE weekend of The Harvest Family Hoot, I’ve been pondering what this event represents beyond a celebration of 20 years & going strong. We are gathering for what promises to be an absolutely amazing collaboration of musicians Friday night, all day Saturday and into the late night, yet I have come to the realization that this event is as much a segue way to another 20 years of reinvention and ways to bring music to the community, be it through the Frank Hamilton School or creating fresh community events that impact my immediate surroundings in the greater Atlanta area. I’m not sure what the future brings as far as camping events are concerned; I am certain that TDawg Presents will continue to provide a reason for folks with different ideals and beliefs – religious, political & otherwise – to enjoy the music together, as music is a strong common bond. It’s important to be reminded in such a polarizing world in which we live that there is more opportunity to unite than divide. I intend to do my part with the former rather than the latter.

I hope that you can join us this weekend – I know that you’ll leave with renewed energy for life and purpose. HOOOOOOOOTENANNY!

Harvest Family Hoot Apr 6-7: Vocalist Jess Goggans Added as Artist-At-Large

2 Feb

jessgoggansThe Harvest Family Hoot welcomes singer/songwriter Jess Goggans to the celebration as an Artist-At-Large! Recognized for her sultry southern grit, soulful melodies and high-energy stage presence, it is said that you can literally feel her voice moving through you. Jess’ music defies genre; it’s been referred to as “get down music,” with influences of funk, rock and blues. You might feel as if you’re hearing Janis Joplin live in concert! Her presence is a great addition to the potpourri of musical styles that will be front and center in April and we’re thrilled to have her on board.

A lot of work has gone into making this year’s edition of the Atlanta Holiday Hootenanny extra special to celebrate the life, music & energy of Col. Bruce Hampton. I am grateful to be producing this wonderful show that benefits Atlanta Habitat for Humanity with the help from some amazingly talented friends (including Larry Keel!), and the only thing that will be missing is YOU! Come on over for what promises to be a unique night of music that won’t be presented in such a way again – find a sitter if you need to and just do it!

If you need encouragement, please read this great preview of the Holiday Hootenanny written by Jerry Grillo and published in Atlanta Magazine online:
