We are thrilled to announce a few additions to the Holiday Hootenanny lineup y’all! Our official statesman, multi-Grammy winner Jim Lauderdale, will be joining us once again! His sets have been quite a highlight each of the previous three years, and we’re grateful that he is able to return again for what promises to be another memorable set. Jim is a very successful songwriter in Nashville, having written songs performed by the likes of George Strait, the Dixie Chicks, Patty Loveless, and countless others. He also is co-host of the highly successful Buddy & Jim Show on Sirius/XM’s Outlaw Country. We are also pleased to welcome multi-Grammy winner and fiddling master Jason Carter (Del McCoury Band, Travelin’ McCourys) Also, please welcome Acoustic Syndicate’s own Steve “Big Daddy” McMurry as well as Jeff Sipe’s State Birds, featuring bassist extraordinaire Neal Fountain, guitarist Mike Seals (Jerry Douglas Band, Sierra Hull), and saxophonist Bryan Lopes.

Fast , elegant and beautiful, this dynamic quartet take musical flight together as “State Birds” (the name is a nod to Col. Bruce Hampton). With the lineup growing for the 9th Annual Holiday Hootenanny, this set promises to present some surprises for all of us!

The music is mesmerizing and delivered with joy and passion. The near telepathic communication is a result of years of chemistry together.
The bands’ roots go back to 1983 in Atlanta. Each of the band members played with Bruce Hampton for a spell and share a unique musical bond. Below is a video captured by good friend Ron Currens at Music On Main Street in 2018, enjoy!

Steve “Big Daddy” McMurry is a founding member, lead vocalist, guitarist & mandolin player of the amazing band, Little King recording artist Acoustic Syndicate. My history with this band goes all the way back to the first HarvestFest on October 10, 1998, and they are “still my favorite band after all these years!” Big Daddy’s friendship and comradery with just about everyone on this lineup only means the family vibe for this year’s Holiday Hoot is going to be felt by everyone in the room. The jams will be plentiful and the music joyous.

The current lineup: Drew Emmitt, Vince Herman, Jim Lauderdale, Larry Keel, Steve “Big Daddy” McMurry, Rev. Jeff Mosier, Jason Carter, A Tribute Johnny Knapp, Jeff Sipe, The State Birds, Bryan Lopes, Neal Fountain, Mike Seals, Daniel Wytanis, more to come!!!

Stay tuned for the remainder of the lineup for the 9th Annual Holiday Hootenanny to come your way soon! PLEASE spread the good word, and get your tickets now if you know you can go! We’re going to have a nice-sized crowd this year, so dont’ be left out! Zambi!!

Harvest Hoot_StageThat’s right y’all! Before you know it, the weekend of April 6-7 will be here, and you KNOW where you should be – HOOOOOOOOOOOOTENANNY!! I am grateful to still be able to bring quality live music to the community, and the Harvest Family Hoot is a celebration of that continuation. It’s been a long strange trip for the last 20 years, and I look forward to what the future brings on this level. (Blue Ridge) HarvestFest, the 19 editions of TDawg’s Back Porch Hootenanny that followed, the Annual Holiday Hootenanny, the free community events, and all the TDawg shows over the years in and around the Southeast have all had a strong common bond in the amazing talent that has always come together to produce memorable and transcending music experiences for just a few patrons or a few thousand and all points in between.

Similar to the final Back Porch Hootenanny in 2016, this upcoming Harvest Family Hoot is bringing together musical talent that spans the history of TDawg Presents from 1998 to the present. I am honored that all the musicians involved have been a part of the journey – we’re in for a weekend of sit-ins and jams that will leave you right where you need to be!

The band closing the The Shed Stage (scroll down for schedule), Deep Blue Sun, is known for their amazing jams and musicianship, and you can rest assured they will leave nothing on the the table at the Hoot! Below is a video from the 4th Annual Atlanta Holiday Hootenanny featuring some special guests, Jeff Mosier and Bobby Miller among them, who will be present at the Harvest Family Hoot. Please note the use of only one hand playing bass 😉 You can expect more of this in six weeks, and more! Enjoy!

Wednesday, December 20 at Terminal West

Showtime: 6:45 PM, Doors open 6 PM, Silent Auction 6-11:15 PM

Advance tickets $25 ADV/$35 Day of Show

The countdown is ON, with just eight days remaining to pure musical ecstasy supporting a wonderful cause and dedicated to a musician so revered by so many. Y’all this edition has been a seven month process on several levels of comprehension, and those who are fortunate to attend will certainly feel that energy. Songs are being exchanged amongst the musicians, potential set lists are forming, and yes, there will be some surprises!

Please welcome the talented saxophone player Bryan Lopes and trumpet extraordinaire Joey “Papa J” Sommerville to the lineup. I first saw Bryan perform over 20 years ago with Jeff Sipe, Count M’Butu and Ricky Keller at Smith’s Olde Bar, performing in an avant-garde sort of way.  Both Papa J and Madrid Express trombonist Daniel Wytanis participated in the Hampton70 Concert at the Fox Theatre in May, and rest assured this trio of horn players will tear it up with Jim Lauderdale and within the Zambi Jam Finale in addition to wherever else it makes sense! Needless to say we’re looking forward to what promises to be an incredibly special night of music!

The schedule is as follows:

6:00 PM ~ Doors Open, Silent Auction open until 11:15 PM

6:45 PM – 7:45 PM ~ Ralph Roddenbery & Friends

8:15 PM – 9:15 PM ~ Jim Lauderdale

9:45 PM – 10:45 PM ~ ZambiGrass Jam, featuring Jeff Mosier, Larry Keel, Nick DiSebastian, Bobby Miller, Jared Womack (Live Auction begins)

11:15 PM – 12:30 AM ~ Zambi Jam Finale, featuring Jeff Mosier, Count M’Butu, Johnny Knapp, The Madrid Express, Zambi Horns & special guests!

I can’t implore upon you enough what it means to have your support of the Holiday Hootenanny, Atlanta Habitat, and a love for great music. Get a sitter, drop what you’re doing, and just come on! You will be thankful that you made that decision. Below is Jim Lauderdale from last year’s edition performing Headed For The Hills – enjoy!

FHS_JDMSP

Formed in early 2014, The Josh Daniel/Mark Schimick Project is a fiery string band blending bluegrass, soul, reggae and rock n’ roll into a style uniquely their own. Respecting their Appalachian roots, these passionate multi-instrumentalists have a way of blending their harmonies and intricate string work in to something that appeals to a wide variety of listeners.   “A little of everything finds its way into their sound.” – Jim Lauderdale

In February, the band was asked to celebrate the grand opening of The Earl Scruggs Museum in Shelby, NC, playing alongside Sam Bush and The Steep Canyon Rangers. By Spring, the band had made even more notable appearances, invited to the stage by Al Schnier of moe. to play a few songs as well as a surprise appearance at Merlefest where they brought the crowd to their feet with a tribute to Doc Watson.

We are thrilled to have the mastery of Atlanta’s own Jeff Mosier opening the evening for what promises to be a night full of fireworks on stage!  Click Here to watch videos by both acts performing.  If you’re a fan of progressive acoustic music and bluegrass of the Sam Bush vein, you’ll love this show!

FHS_Grisman Tribute
The Frank Hamilton School is excited to present an amazing lineup of musicians paying tribute to one of the most influential musicians of the last several generations and the creator of his own style called Dawg Music, David Grisman. For nearly half a century, mandolinist/composer/producer Grisman has been at the forefront of the always evolving world of acoustic music, weaving in and out of many genres, tradition and styles. He is a true pioneer and living legend who has paved the way for countless numbers of musicians who have become musical pioneers in their own right, including Tony Rice, Mike Marshall, Darol Anger and Joe Craven.

Bluegrass, Jazz & Latin are just a few of the styles that will be represented throughout this performance, so sit back, relax, and take in the musical notes of Grisman as seen through this A-list of musicians who will be bringing you the music this evening.

FHS_Smokey's Farmland Band_Banner

Smokey’s Farmland Band blends musical influences ranging from bluegrass to gypsy jazz to Cajun, creating a progressive sound they like to call “Goodtime Eclectic Bluegrass”. While they enjoy venturing outside the realm of the traditional, they still respect the roots of bluegrass, and retain the energy and twang of mountain music. A typical set features original tunes, good ol’ pickin numbers, and some unexpected covers too. It all comes together in an exciting genre-bending style that keeps listeners on their toes, and on the dance floor!

Among many accomplishments, SFB has opened for Willie Nelson at a sold out House Of Blues New Orleans, Sam Bush at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, and shared the bill for Del Yeah! with The Del McCoury Band and others. They have also opened for the Emmitt-Nershi Band and The Freight Hoppers, and shared the stage with numerous Atlanta and touring bluegrass bands. The band has traveled to Colorado, DC, NYC, and even St. Croix for performances, winning new fans at stops along the way.

geoff_RLCThe Frank Hamilton School is excited to present Australian blues guitar virtuoso Geoff Achison in an acoustic performance accompanied by pedal steel guru Bill Fleming. A highly regarded instrumentalist and singer/songwriter, Geoff treats his guitar like an orchestra laying down a mix of earthy blues, heartfelt soul and irresistibly funky grooves. As a self taught musician, Geoff has created his own sound while winning a number of awards along the way. Whether he is with his Souldiggers group or simply solo with an acoustic guitar, Geoff’s infectious and inventive style has earned him fans around the world. Geoff’s roots in the South are firmly established, having lived in Decatur for a two-year period while taking the not only the Southeast but the country by storm. He has collaborated with the likes of Randall Bramblett, Delbert McClinton, Jorma Kaukonen, legendary bassist George Porter Jr., the Allman Brothers Band, and the late great Les Paul. While he resides in Australia, we are fortunate that Geoff returns stateside once or twice a year and shares his gift with us!

This concert features a unique pairing of musicians that will make your experience extra special.
