We are thrilled to announce a few additions to the Holiday Hootenanny lineup y’all! Our official statesman, multi-Grammy winner Jim Lauderdale, will be joining us once again! His sets have been quite a highlight each of the previous three years, and we’re grateful that he is able to return again for what promises to be another memorable set. Jim is a very successful songwriter in Nashville, having written songs performed by the likes of George Strait, the Dixie Chicks, Patty Loveless, and countless others. He also is co-host of the highly successful Buddy & Jim Show on Sirius/XM’s Outlaw Country. We are also pleased to welcome multi-Grammy winner and fiddling master Jason Carter (Del McCoury Band, Travelin’ McCourys) Also, please welcome Acoustic Syndicate’s own Steve “Big Daddy” McMurry as well as Jeff Sipe’s State Birds, featuring bassist extraordinaire Neal Fountain, guitarist Mike Seals (Jerry Douglas Band, Sierra Hull), and saxophonist Bryan Lopes.

Fast , elegant and beautiful, this dynamic quartet take musical flight together as “State Birds” (the name is a nod to Col. Bruce Hampton). With the lineup growing for the 9th Annual Holiday Hootenanny, this set promises to present some surprises for all of us!

The music is mesmerizing and delivered with joy and passion. The near telepathic communication is a result of years of chemistry together.
The bands’ roots go back to 1983 in Atlanta. Each of the band members played with Bruce Hampton for a spell and share a unique musical bond. Below is a video captured by good friend Ron Currens at Music On Main Street in 2018, enjoy!

Steve “Big Daddy” McMurry is a founding member, lead vocalist, guitarist & mandolin player of the amazing band, Little King recording artist Acoustic Syndicate. My history with this band goes all the way back to the first HarvestFest on October 10, 1998, and they are “still my favorite band after all these years!” Big Daddy’s friendship and comradery with just about everyone on this lineup only means the family vibe for this year’s Holiday Hoot is going to be felt by everyone in the room. The jams will be plentiful and the music joyous.

Stay tuned for the remainder of the lineup for the 9th Annual Holiday Hootenanny to come your way soon! PLEASE spread the good word, and get your tickets now if you know you can go! We’re going to have a nice-sized crowd this year, so dont’ be left out! Zambi!!

Wow y’all!  We sure have rounded that corner quickly, and the 17th installment of TDawg’s Back Porch Hootenanny is just about here!  I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend and that your team won! 😉

Now that we’re into September and just over two weeks out, you can clear your head for a moment and realize that you not only WANT to go to Hootenanny, but you also NEED to go!  The amazing energy that is created at Cherokee Farms – the camaraderie of your friends, camping neighbors and musicians – the spontaneity of the jams – the amazing flow of this tightly wound small festie that releases a giant multi-layered musical explosion – the knowledge that you WILL hear something you’ve not heard before and it will make an impact on your already impeccable musical tastes.  These are all great qualities of what a Hootenanny is at the core, a joyful healing and re-energizing experience for the mind, body and soul.  TICKETS & LODGING INFO

3/22 ~ TDawg Presents David Gans & Rumpke Mountain Boys @ Red Light Cafe.  Doors 8pm, Showtime 9pm, $10 Adv/$12 Door

Singer-songwriter-guitarist-radio producer/host-author-journalist-record producer-photographer David Gans is widely known as the man behind the long-time, nationally-syndicated radio show Grateful Dead Hour, although his musical side is equally if not more impressive. The list of musicians with whom he has shared the stage includes Phil Lesh, Donna the Buffalo, Henry Kaiser, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Ollabelle, the late great Vassar Clements, Jim Lauderdale, The String Cheese Incident, Peter Rowan, and moe., to name just a few. He has also written
songs with a host of others, including Jim Page, Lorin Rowan, and Robert Hunter.

For over ten years, Ohio’s #1 bluegrass band, the Rumpke Mountain Boys, have been amassing devoted fans with their signature blend of jamgrass, aptly named “Trashgrass.” Phenomenal songwriting framed by fiery-fast mandolin, banjo, acoustic guitar and upright bass, creates a sound that has been described as foot-stompin’ whiskey-spillin’ old-timey psychedelic folk music! A TDawg Reflection – HOOT HOOT!!

26 Aug

Little King Trio

This past weekend marked a very special time for me personally and professionally.  I started in this crazy music business back in 1998, and a few of those original folks who helped me get going back in the day were at the Clear Mountain View Music Festival at the Elliott Family Farms in Polkville, NC – what a fantastic reunion!  I value my friendships greatly, and when there is an opportunity not only to renew those relationships and create new friendships but also to rejuvenate myself musically and spiritually, that’s the perfect storm for one helluva time!

TDawg’s Back Porch Hootenanny lives by this formula, and if you don’t feel this energy, we’ll help you get there!

It was fantastic to see our good bluegrass buddy David Via back on stage after a horrendous attack left him a large stack of medical bills, including a reconstructed jaw.   He sounded great, looked great, and it was too bad the only storm of the weekend came during his set, because it was fantastic!  Big Daddy Love followed by Yarn provided a framework for some remarkable jams, instrumentation, collaboration, and songwriting.  Music for the soul.

Via & Padgett   BDL_Yarn   Steep Canyon Rangers

Good times with the Steep Canyon Rangers!  They’ve come quite a ways, obviously, and they sound incredible!  Woody looked sharp up there as the ring leader – if you haven’t heard about or are considering going to Mountain Song At Sea, GO!  There are some great acts booked in addition to Steep Canyon Rangers, including the David Grisman Folk Jazz Trio, The Seldom Scene, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Travelin’ McCourys, Kruger Brothers, Trampled By Turtles, Larry Keel & Natural Bridge, Greensky Bluegrass and more!  I’m certain there will be additions to the lineup coming soon!

Following the Steep Canyon Rangers was Acoustic Syndicate, one of my acts for the very first HarvestFest in October of 1998 plus three out of the next four (had to cancel in 2001 when they were invited to perform at Farm Aid).  Needless to say, seeing them after a few years of not having the opportunity to do so was extremely rewarding.  Emotions swelled inside of me as I was taken away by the family harmonies and tight, tight musical interaction that transcends description until you see it live.  The family connection (two brothers and a cousin) in that band is strong, and it’s exciting to have them doing some shows more frequently as well as releasing a new album (very inspiring release and highly recommended) shortly after Labor Day!

Acoustic Syndicate

PLEASE consider coming to the upcoming Hootenanny – I know from my own experiences that this is not a Hoot to be missed – this one, perhaps more so than any previous one, really instills the original HarvestFest spirit from ’98-’02 at the old location in Fairburn, Atlanta’s Back Porch.  Below is ticket information for you – I hope you can make it out!
