The 8th Annual Atlanta Holiday Hootenanny is dedicated to the memory of the late great fiddler Vassar Clements, whose career spanned seven decades. Vassar performed alongside many musical luminaries, including Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Linda Ronstadt, Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, David Grisman, Stephane Grappelli, Dicky Betts, John Hartford, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Col. Bruce Hampton and so many more. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him and get to know him on a personal level. On a side note, Vassar first performed with Col. Bruce at HarvestFest in 1999. The WOW factor was in full effect needless to say as Vassar simply tore it up on “Time is Free” that also featured Barry Richman on guitar.

Please plan to join us on Thursday, December 20 for our “annual holiday party” that never fails to provide a WOW factor by the end, and rest assured this one will be no different!

TDawg Presents is excited to bring you the 8th Annual Atlanta Holiday Hootenanny back home at the Variety Playhouse on Thursday, December 20! If you’ve not been to the Variety Playhouse since it’s major makeover, it is truly a shining gem of a venue not only for Atlanta and region but nationally, too. This year’s edition is paying tribute to old friend, the late great Vassar Clements, who passed in 2005 but whose musical prowess lives on forever. There’s still a couple of more pieces to the puzzle that is the Holiday Hoot lineup and the ensuing four sets of music. Proceeds from the event and silent auction will benefit Atlanta Habitat – let’s make a difference!

Y’all this is going to be quite a musical experience on Friday night at the Vista Room! High energy from the beautiful stage there is a given, so be sure you’re a part! Strung Like A Horse has been on break for a little while and this is their first show back, so rest assured the fellas from Strung Like a Horse are gonna bring it! Expect a surprise sit-in or two 😉

Atlanta’s long-time king of the Cajun & Zydeco scene Hair of the Dog will really set the night on right, bringing a great blend of sounds to create an addictive Cajun/rock ball of joy. While the patriarch of the band, Atlanta folk legend Whit Connah, passed away almost two years ago, the band carries on in amazing fashion with his energy in tow and the next generation of family jumping on the stage. Always an amazing time! What a great combination of bands!

Well folks, we are gearing up for what promises to be an incredible weekend of reunions with friends, family & musicians both on the stage and off! The Harvest Family Hoot is truly a celebration of the journey that has transpired over the course of the last 20 years in my life and many of the musicians involved. This journey includes not only the evolution of HarvestFest to a nationally known 3-day roots and Americana extravaganza known as Blue Ridge HarvestFest in partnership with High Sierra Music and more than 20 smaller festivals that included 19 editions of TDawg’s Back Porch Hootenanny, two Keel Family Functions and a Cherokee Farms FiddleFest, but also all the concerts that have happened in venues around the metro Atlanta area and various points of the Southeast that are too numerous to recall right now. We’ve all been blessed with such an amazing array of music legends, future legends, and all-around phenomenal musicians over the years! The music never stops my friends.

I find myself in a peculiar position right now and feeling blessed simultaneously. While continuing to dig in as the Director of Concerts & Community Outreach on the Frank Hamilton School front, and there is A LOT of goodness going on there, TDawg Presents is producing just a few concerts presently, which is exactly how I need it to be. On that note, the select two events coming up courtesy of TDawg Presents include one this Friday night, October 28, a Halloween bash at the Red Light Cafe with Hootenanny favorite Strung Like A Horse featuring Bill Fleming on the pedal steel and The 6th Annual Atlanta’s Holiday Hootenanny ~ A Benefit for Atlanta Habitat for Humanity ~ at Terminal West on Sunday, December 18. We’re just over a week out from the final Back Porch Hootenanny, and it is going to be an amazing time had by all, from the musicians to staff & volunteers to the patrons who have supported the Hootenannies all these years and HarvestFest before that! We all WANT to be there. The music will be continuous, first from the stage and carrying over to the late night acoustic jams! We will celebrate all that has been, that has brought an amazing group of individuals together to form an extra special potpourri of family and friends for so many years already and for the unforeseeable future. The message of bringing together community through music via TDawg Presents events doesn’t end; there is simply a change of venue in the Frank Hamilton School that will continue the trend of outstanding performances and on a more regular basis!
