Folks, the lineup is now complete for the 8th Annual Holiday Hootenanny, benefitting Atlanta Habitat for the sixth consecutive year! TDawg Presents is thrilled to bring the one and only Jeff Sipe (Apt. Q258) back into the Holiday Hootenanny mix! His many accolades include being a founding member of Col. Bruce Hampton’s legendary band the Aquarium Rescue Unit that also featured Oteil Burbridge, Jimmy Herring, Jeff Mosier, Count M’Butu, and Matt Mundy. He spent three years on the road with another one of my favorite bands, Leftover Salmon, and he was also a co-creator (along with the late great Ricky Keller) of the Zambiland Orchestra, a holiday extravaganza from which the Holiday Hootenanny is heavily influenced. This is Sipe’s fourth appearance in the Holiday Hootenanny and his first since 2013. I have to say that the rhythm section featuring Jeff Sipe & Richie Jones on drums/percussion and Kevin Scott & Evan Sarver on bass is as strong as it gets!
TDawg Presents is honored to bring back intact the horn section from last year’s show that includes Joey “Papa J” Sommerville on trumpet, Bryan Lopes on saxophone, and Daniel Wytanis on trombone. A common link among these three incredible horn players is their love for and friendship with Col. Bruce, as all three participated in the Hampton 70 concert in May of 2017. I remember fondly in the mid-90’s heading to Smith’s Olde Bar on rainy & cold weeknights to see The Apartment Project perform. Lineup included Jeff Sipe, Bryan Lopes, Ricky Keller, Count M’Butu, and an amazing assortment of musicians.
Folks, we are going to have an incredible time on December 20 at the Variety Playhouse! If you know you are going, then go ahead and purchase your tickets! Remember, no service fee applied if you pop by the Variety Playhouse box office during normal business hours or on a show night. This one’s gonna blow the roof off the place!
If you’ve not seen Heather Gillis before, you are in for a treat! Check this video out from Pisgah Brewing in NC from September of 2017. Enjoy!
The 8th Annual Atlanta Holiday Hootenanny is dedicated to the memory of the late great fiddler Vassar Clements, whose career spanned seven decades. Vassar performed alongside many musical luminaries, including Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Linda Ronstadt, Jerry Garcia, Peter Rowan, David Grisman, Stephane Grappelli, Dicky Betts, John Hartford, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Col. Bruce Hampton and so many more. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him and get to know him on a personal level. On a side note, Vassar first performed with Col. Bruce at HarvestFest in 1999. The WOW factor was in full effect needless to say as Vassar simply tore it up on “Time is Free” that also featured Barry Richman on guitar.
Please plan to join us on Thursday, December 20 for our “annual holiday party” that never fails to provide a WOW factor by the end, and rest assured this one will be no different!

Enjoy this video from the 2nd Annual Holiday Hootenanny on 12/16/12 at the Variety Playhouse led by Grant Green Jr and featuring Jimmy Hall, Ike Stubblefield, Jeff Sipe, Oteil Burbridge, Count M’Butu, Yonrico Scott & Gaurav Malhotra.
TDawg Presents is excited to bring you the 8th Annual Atlanta Holiday Hootenanny back home at the Variety Playhouse on Thursday, December 20! If you’ve not been to the Variety Playhouse since it’s major makeover, it is truly a shining gem of a venue not only for Atlanta and region but nationally, too. This year’s edition is paying tribute to old friend, the late great Vassar Clements, who passed in 2005 but whose musical prowess lives on forever. There’s still a couple of more pieces to the puzzle that is the Holiday Hoot lineup and the ensuing four sets of music. Proceeds from the event and silent auction will benefit Atlanta Habitat – let’s make a difference!
Stay tuned for more information on the event, and please share, spread the word!

Y’all this is going to be quite a musical experience on Friday night at the Vista Room! High energy from the beautiful stage there is a given, so be sure you’re a part! Great food & drink menus offer up temptations for bites and libations, too. Strung Like A Horse has been on break for a little while and this is their first show back, so rest assured the fellas from Strung Like a Horse are gonna bring it! Expect a surprise sit-in or two 😉
Atlanta’s long-time king of the Cajun & Zydeco scene Hair of the Dog will really set the night on right, bringing a great blend of sounds to create an addictive Cajun/rock ball of joy. While the patriarch of the band, Atlanta folk legend Whit Connah, passed away almost two years ago, the band carries on in amazing fashion with his energy in tow and the next generation of family jumping on the stage. Always an amazing time! What a great combination of bands!
Here’s a video of Strung Like A Horse from May of this year at The Purple Fiddle in West Virginia. Enjoy!

I know it’s only the 3rd week in June, but plans are well underway for the 8th Annual Atlanta Holiday Hootenanny to happen on Thursday, December 20, and once again it will benefit Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. TDawg Presents has donated over $11,000 the last five years. I am excited to announce that TDawg Presents will be taking the Holiday Hoot back to its original home, theVariety Playhouse! This edition, as all the previous have been, will be extra special – as it will feature a wonderful dedication to the late great fiddler, Vassar Clements. The first time he performed with Col. Bruce Hampton was HarvestFest in 1999 with Bruce’s band at the time, Planet Zambie, that featured Barry Richman on guitar and Dr. Dan on the keyboards. Bruce crowned him the “King of Kings”. The version of “Time is Free” that came out of that set was absolutely over the top! Vassar & I became good friends, and I feel fortunate that we were able to enjoy his music for a few more years before his passing in 2005. Expect a stellar group of musicians to be involved the celebration of one of the greatest masters of music in the modern era! More to come in the next couple of months.

Celebrating the life and music of Jerry Garcia – the music never stops with bands on 2 alternating indoor stages – featuring some of Georgia’s best jam bands:
It was beyond cold with the strong wind blowing Saturday. Heavy rain Friday. Some sleet on Saturday mixed with sunshine. Finally clearing by Saturday evening. Wow! And through it all, the show went on! The musicians played their hearts out, the crowd, around 400 total, was dialed in and having a blast, plenty of kids running around with their faces painted, and the music stayed on schedule! All this despite some crazy weather conditions. THANK YOU to the staff and sound crews from Tree Sound Studios and Music On Main Street for their incredible ability to produce top quality sound for us under less than ideal circumstances, and THANK YOU to the Harvest Family Hoot staff and volunteers for helping make the Harvest Family Hoot a success. The bonfire, at the start 7 ft in height and about 10 ft in diameter, was lit mid afternoon and fire barrels were scattered around with plenty of wood to go around, so one was never too far from warmth. THANK YOU to Smokey and his crew for maintaining the fires and having the farm ready for us!
Blackberry Possum got the ball rolling Friday night with some fantastic energy that had everyone moving and shaking under the extended cover in front of the stage. If you have a chance to catch them, don’t miss that opportunity. Saturday morning was when the high for the day occurred, and the temperature dropped from then on. That didn’t stop the music from keeping everyone warm and fuzzy inside on both stages all day and into the late night. Pickled Holler, featuring former members of Blueground Undergrass – Rev. Jeff Mosier, Matthew Williams & Edward Hunter – and beautiful vocals and bass playing of Jessica Williams, was the ideal way to ease into the day. How lucky are we to have such caliber of talent to start the day?! Our friends in Spackle provided a nice rock edge. Dead Affect provided just the right set of Grateful Dead music to boogie through the afternoon. Honeywood continued that boogie with some high energy jamgrass. Rev. Jeff Mosier & Biscuit Tragedy laid down an absolutely beautiful set that really left me missing my good friend Col. Bruce, who would have certainly been performing at this one. The GMOs provided us with one of the best sets of the day; if you have an opportunity to catch this fresh outfit, don’t miss out! The return of Snake Oil Medicine Show to the stage was extremely special, and they laid out some incredible gypsy and reggae rhythms mixed in with their signature hypnotic sound. One can never underestimate a set when it’s led by the amazing singer/songwriter Ralph Roddenbery, and the wow factor was in full effect after his memorable set. Deep Blue Sun followed that with 90 minutes of purely hypnotic jams that was easy listening from the bonfire, and Strung Like A Horse made sure everyone was strung by the end of the night. There were sit-ins abound all day and night Saturday and for the Friday night set, which made for a ultra-special experience. Enjoy the snippet from Friday night below featuring Bobby Miller sitting in with Blackberry Possum for some fine bluegrass jams!
This particular Hootenanny left me with the hope that another might happen. The Hoot family is such an incredible gathering of folks that are friends, musicians, kids, Smokey & Debbie, and Cherokee Farms. I’m excited about what the future might bring, so stay tuned in and support live music!
