Here’s a fairly complete list of the musicians. We are so blessed to have such professionals come together for a celebratory night of music that also raises money for Atlanta Habitat for Humanity!

Lineup:

Peter Stroud is Sheryl Crow’s music director and has been a part of her band for the most part of 25 years. He has also toured and/or recorded with Stevie Nix, Don Henley, Sarah McLachlan, Shawn Mullins, 10,000 Maniacs, and many others. In fact, if you watched the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony recently, you would’ve seen Peter on the stage jamming with Peter Frampton during Sheryl Crow’s segment! It’s pretty darn exciting to be bringing this local music icon to the Holiday Hootenanny stage for the first time! Below is a video performing “Everyday Is A Winding Road” with Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nix & Peter Frampton just last month at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction!

Two-time Grammy winner Jim Lauderdale is an American music treasure. Joining us for the 8th consecutive year, his sets are always a crowd favorite, in part because he releases at least one album a year! He cohosts the weekly Buddy & Jim Radio Show on SiriusXM with the incomparable Buddy Miller, and his songs have been covered by the likes of George Strait, Patty Loveless, Elvis Costello, The Dixie Chicks, Gary Allen, Blake Shelton, and more! He has also collaborated with many of those artists as well as the legendary Robert Hunter, Ralph Stanley. Here’s what a few folks have to say about him!

“Jim Lauderdale is a consummate entertainer, a sharp dressed man as well, a terrific songwriter and a great singer.”– George Strait

“He’s my favorite part of Americana music” – Ketch Secor, Old Crow Medicine Show

“He’s a man of great style, an exceptional songwriter and tremendous singer” – Elvis Costello

“Jim Lauderdale could easily be called a renaissance man. He’s a great singer, great guitar player and there’s no way you could miss his work as a songwriter.” – Ricky Skaggs

Here is a video of his performance from 2021 with the once-a-year band the Atlanta All-Stars.

There is some great energy building up around Holiday Hootenanny 12! I have a permanent addition to the show to announce. This will be the third year in a row that we’ve done a drums/percussion session dedicated to our late drumming maestros, Count M’Butu & Yonrico Scott. This will be a fixture from here on out. You WILL feel their presence.

Another addition to Holiday Hootenanny unique to this year will be a segment dedicated to the memory of our good friend musician/songwriter/vocalist Scott Warren, who passed away in early October after battling cancer. He and his band, Captain Soularcat, rocked the Southeast and the country for a few years. The lineup featured annual Holiday Hootenanny participants Gaurav Malhotra & Matt Williams, as well as Benji Shanks (Blackberry Smoke, Christian Bush) We miss him dearly and feel his presence. Please see below for a video of Higher Mound, a defining song by the band, produced by Jeff Mosier. Great stuff!

Y’all Holiday Hootenanny 12 is going to be off the chains. PLEASE share the poster and encourage your friends and folks who’ve never attended to come on!

Tuten & Bill Rutan are a perfect blend of the music, and trust me when I say you won’t go home disappointed!  This show will mark the final 2016 perfomance at the Red Light Cafe as part of the Frank Hamilton School Concert Series, which will pick back up on Saturday, January 7 and feature a strong Americana co-bill with Dusty Roads and C.J. Only eight spaces remain for this one-of-a-kind workshop with the extraordinary Joe Craven!

Frank Hamilton workshop copy

Joe Craven teaches musical improvisation more from a theater model rather than the requisite model of jazz. Therefore, this is not an ability-based class. If you’re an advanced player seeking a ‘theory & technique’-oriented foray into improvisation from a jazz architecture, this class is not that, yet may be still an enlightening experience for you. Joe connects improvisation to what you already do and moves you forward from there. We’ll focus on ways to think about sound, embrace fearlessness, and address the connection between spoken-word language and the language of music.

Showing up empty-handed, embracing mistakes and learning the value of losing control are some of what we’ll explore. Lots of exercises, with & without instruments in your hands to engage, and free yourself to play with others in new ways. The class will stretch you and may well change some of your perceptions of what music is. It’s a fun and enlightening romp!

Joe is first and foremost a creative force of nature and, as a workshop leader or motivational speaker for the arts, he is without peer.
— Jim Magill, Director – The Swannanoa Gathering Folk Workshops / Black Mountain, NC
