Frank Hamilton School Presents Tray Dahl & The Jugtime Ragband w/ special guest The Clams (feat. Frank Hamilton!) ~ Thu Dec 1 @ Red Light Cafe

$10 ADV/$12 Door

The Frank Hamilton School is thrilled to present one of the hottest bands on the greater Atlanta scene these days in Tray Dahl & The Jugtime Ragband with another special appearance by our namesake and inspiration, Frank Hamilton, and his ragtime jazz band The Clams!

Tray Dahl & The Jugtime Ragband is not jug band, ragtime, or dixieland. It is an energetic amalgamation of all the popular styles of the 1920’s/30’s – jazz, a little blues, a bit of swing, a pinch old time gospel, and even classic showtunes – all immersed in an early 20th century New Orleans sound. We get people’s feet stomping in a roaring twenties kind of way. Their sound has been described by many as “speakeasy” or “prohibition era” music. Their songs match the early New Orleans jazz/blues instrumentation combo of tenor banjo and trumpet with upbeat dixieland and swing tempos underlying a heavy dose of powerful 1920’s inspired vocals stylistically akin to Bessie Smith, Clara Smith, and Louis Armstrong.

The Clams, led by Frank Hamilton, also include Atlanta music icons L.A. Tuten and Bill Rutan, creating an even more memorable evening bringing together some of the finest in the ragtime jazz sound, both old and new!
