TDawg Presents brings you the finest in music that heals the soul and brings life to your life. You KNOW that a TDawg show will always be a solid show!
TDawg Presents is excited to bring you some exciting fresh old-time music by the The Tillers and The Montvales, both from Cincinatti!
The Tillers have been thumping their own distinctive sound of string band style folk music for a decade, riding it all over the country and across the sea. Four studio albums and one live record have won them praise as modern folk storytellers of the national soundscape. Self-described “retired” punk rockers, that punk influence gave their sound a distinctive bite, setting them apart from most other folk acts, creating a hard-driving percussive strum and stomp. Their sound has proven to be an appropriate fit with a wide range of musical styles- traditional folk, bluegrass, jazz, punk rock and anything else they might run into. They have shared the stage with a broad swath of national touring acts, ranging from renowned folk legends such as Doc Watson, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Guy Clark, Country Joe McDonald, Jerry Douglas, Iris Dement, Pokey LaFarge, The Hackensaw Boys and The Carolina Chocolate Drops to rambunctious rock daredevils like the Legendary Shack Shakers.
Songwriter duo The Montvales honed their skills in Knoxville, TN, performing on the air for WDVX and the old-time music community in town, before relocating to Cincinatti. Their sound careens recklessly across the whole folk-country spectrum, showcasing The Montvales’ distinctive harmonies and building a sonic world just expansive and surprising enough to hold the wide-eyed existentialism of the stories and questions raised by the lyrics.

Things you should know about the 9th Annual Holiday Hootenanny
1. Every Holiday Hootenanny is different yet offers that same insane musical energy that has defined many of us here in the ATL. We continue to embody the spirit of the late Col. Bruce Hampton, who inspired so many of us to “let it ride, let it roll, let it flow!” I find it impossible not to live life with that as a premise at the top of the list. The Bruce banner will be hung!
2. The Johnny Knapp Tribute will be a two-part segment. The first will feature jazz the way that Johnny played it. This is going to be an incredibly special time. That portion will lead into the second half of the set featuring music that Col. Bruce and Johnny loved playing together. Those two gentlemen meant so much to each other and anyone around them or felt the magic created by these two masters of Zambi.
3. Expect the unexpected. For any of y’all who have been to all of the Holiday Hoots, a handful, or if last year was your first one, you know that is trademark. The final jam is going to be one for the books! I’ll leave it at that.
4. Jim Lauderdale will be performing a full set broken down into solo acoustic > bluegrass > full electric with horns. All of the songs featured he co-wrote with the late Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. This will truly be a remarkable experience to witness.
5. Jeff Sipe and the State Birds featuring Ike Stubblefield, Bryan Lopes, Neal Fountain, Mike Seal, and special guests is about as amazing a way to get the show going. Jeff is one of the finest drummers in the world, and we’re fortunate to have him on board fairly regularly with the Holiday Hootenanny! Check out this fine video of the State Birds minus Ike in an intimate setting. They have a vast knowledge of music so who knows (except for them) what they’re going to do! Soooo much talent.

I know it’s only the 3rd week in June, but plans are well underway for the 8th Annual Atlanta Holiday Hootenanny to happen on Thursday, December 20, and once again it will benefit Atlanta Habitat for Humanity. TDawg Presents has donated over $11,000 the last five years. I am excited to announce that TDawg Presents will be taking the Holiday Hoot back to its original home, theVariety Playhouse! This edition, as all the previous have been, will be extra special – as it will feature a wonderful dedication to the late great fiddler, Vassar Clements. The first time he performed with Col. Bruce Hampton was HarvestFest in 1999 with Bruce’s band at the time, Planet Zambie, that featured Barry Richman on guitar and Dr. Dan on the keyboards. Bruce crowned him the “King of Kings”. The version of “Time is Free” that came out of that set was absolutely over the top! Vassar & I became good friends, and I feel fortunate that we were able to enjoy his music for a few more years before his passing in 2005. Expect a stellar group of musicians to be involved the celebration of one of the greatest masters of music in the modern era! More to come in the next couple of months.
