Atlanta’s Holiday Hootenanny News!!

15 Nov

Well folks, the 3rd Annual Atlanta’s Holiday Hootenanny keeps getting sweeter by the day, both on the concert side and the silent auction side.  It’s been fun to stir the pot and get some exciting items to bid on (see pictures below for one item!), and TDawg Presents is excited to announce some additions to the lineup!

Two amazing songwriters from opposite ends of the sprectrum – original Capricorn Records recording artist Tommy Talton (Cowboy) and multi-instrumentalist Jason Kenney – are joining this already on-fire lineup, with just a couple of more to be added soon.  Both bring a passion to their unique sound, full of purity and soul.

Talton is walking music history, as a founding member of Capricorn Records original Cowboy (also featuring Chuck Leavell), and through most of the 70s as a studio musician recording with artists such as Gregg Allman, The Allman Brothers Band, Bonnie Bramlett, Martin Mull, Corky Lang (West, Bruce and Lang, Mountain, Dickey Betts, Clarence Carter, country legend Kitty Wells, Alex and Livingston Taylor, Arthur Conley of Sweet Soul Music fame, and more.  He toured extensively throughout the U.S. with Cowboy and with the Gregg Allman tour, from Carnegie Hall (as special guests) to Fillmore West in San Francisco and most cities in between. Talton was also the guitarist on Gregg Allman’s “Laid Back” album.

Kenney has been performing and recording professionally for only eight years now, but it seems like a generation’s worth of time based on how he plays, sings, and writes.  His most recent effort is a group called the Kenney Blackmon String Band with legendary fiddler David Blackmon, and their album was produced by famed Widespread Panic producer John Keane.

Stay tuned for a couple of more lineup announcements, and SPREAD THE GOOD WORD!  There’s not another show with as much heart and positive energy as the 3rd Annual Atlanta’s Holiday Hootenanny – A Benefit for Atlanta Habitat for Humanity!  HOOT HOOT!!

Below is nice clip from this past March in NYC at BB King’s Blues Club for the Hittin’ the Note After-party, post Allman Brothers Band concert, featuring the Tommy Talton Band…enjoy!!!

Updated Holiday Hootenanny Poster!

11 Nov

Holiday Hoot 2013 poster (2)

The 3rd Annual Atlanta’s Holiday Hootenanny is going to be epic, to put it simply.  There are going to be some surprises, no doubt, and the listed lineup is yet again an A++ group of musicians that represent Georgia and the Southeast as well as any in letting the world know how freakin’ amazing our energy, talent, soul, and rhythm truly are.  You’ll see it all on one stage in various formations.  Breakdown of the concert to come!

This year, we are incorporating a silent auction into the mix, and I must say there are some pretty nifty items to be auctioned or raffled off, including an electric guitar donated by the one and only Col. Bruce Hampton and to be signed by a group of who’s who at the Christmas Jam in Asheville the weekend before!  Stay tuned for an updated list to be released in the next week or so.

TDawg Presents is excited to have the participation of Tree Leaf Music, a subsidiary of Tree Sound Studios in archiving this year’s Holiday Hootenanny.  We will be working towards a release of the show for download purchase, with proceeds to benefit Atlanta Habitat for Humanity!

Stay tuned for more info soon, but PLEASE support the cause and buy a ticket to what can be regarded as the concert of the year by many!  Advance tickets ($30 adv/$35 dos) are available online through the Terminal West website and the box office is open Tue-Fri 11-5, as well as any night where we have another show, should you want to avoid a service charge.

Here’s a fantastic clip from last year’s Holiday Hootenanny featuring Papa Mali, Jimmy Hall, Oteil Burbridge, and a host of others!

This costume party is for our friends and **YOUR FRIENDS**!
We are NOT sending individual invitations or doing RSVP. This is not a public event, rather it is a unique social experience designed to bring friends together with our friends’ friends.
BRING A GROUP OF YOUR FAVORITE PEOPLE… or just plan to meet some more of ours, and undoubtedly some you didn’t know we knew!

Where do I park?

Parking can be something of a chore so carpool, arrive early, cab it, go in on a shuttle van service with others, etc. We will have several security personnel patrolling the streets, but it is always wise to use the buddy system late at night and leave valuables out of your car.

Will there be food?

You bet! Details to come, check back on the Scarendipity Facebook page for updates…

I have more questions. Who do I contact?

Be sure to check the Scarendipity Facebook page and Facebook event page for regular updates – most if not all of the information you need will be right there. Otherwise, you can send your questions to scarendipity@gmail.com, and we’ll try to get back to you as soon as possible.

Is this an all-ages event?

Sorry, this is a 21-and-over event.

The donation is a bit rich for my blood – how can I still participate?

We are always in need of volunteers to help set up, tear down, clean up afterwards, and help with odd jobs the day of the party. Email us at scarendipity@gmail.com if you want to help!

Brave New Baby Tour      SLAH_9-14

Happy Hump Day everyone!  Thought you’d enjoy a couple of fun videos from The Ragbirds & Strung Like A Horse to help you through the day.  I hope you can make it out to these shows!  Both early, both manageable!

The first is “Lucky Rhythm” by The Ragbirds at the Summercamp Music Festival earlier this year w/ a quite a festive late night crowd.  While our show will be the polar opposite time-wise, they’re gonna have quite a groove going in the cozy confines of the Red Light Cafe!

The second is “Horizontal” by Strung Like A Horse from Scenic City Roots this past summer.  Y’all Music On Main Street is a BYOB venue, and you can bring your dinner picnic set up, and it’s a great venue for kids!

Big Week of Shows for TDawg Presents!

30 Sep

the-ragbirds-red-light-cafe-oct-3-banner

Come on out for a special early weeknight show at The Red Light Cafe on Thursday, October 3, with one of the most dynamic bands touring these days in The Ragbirds!  Fresh off having a baby in August, Erin Zindle leads these road warriors back on the road for the first time since that time on the proudly proclaimed “Brave New Baby Tour”.

Brave New Baby Tour

They will be traveling in their new bio-fuel vehicle tailor made for including a new little family member!  I personally am looking forward to welcoming them with open arms and an amazing audience Thursday night!  It’s also my wife’s birthday, and The Ragbirds is one of her favorite bands.  So if you know her, come on out and celebrate with us.  If you don’t know her, come on out and celebrate with us!  Below is a great video of the band performing one of my favorite songs by them, “Brave New Beat”, from Music City Roots.  Enjoy!

Strung_Hoot

On Saturday, October 5, Strung Like A Horse visits Music On Main Street for an evening under the large oaks in a beautiful backyard setting in historic downtown Lilburn, just 20 minutes east of the ATL.  It’s an early show, starting at 7pm, and be ready for two sets of the some of the finest self-proclaimed “gypsy punk garage grass” you’re ever going to see!  Cover is only $10!  These kind folks are on a roll right now, doing good things, and are the top band out of Chattanooga right now.  DO NOT MISS THEM!  Music On Main Street is a very family friendly venue that is BYOB and you can bring your own dinner spread, too.  Be sure to bring a blanket and/or chairs!  Below is a video of their song titled “Gypsy Jane”, some of which was filmed at beautiful Cherokee Farms.

TDawg’s Back Porch Hootenanny is 3 weeks out!

12 Sep

I figure that this repost is relevant today 😉 In this crazy world that we inhabit, surrounded by so much wrong, it’s nice to have “it” right. The Hootenannies are right! If you’ve never been, you need to give it a try.  The testimonials below are from the last Hootenanny back in April of  this year.  They’re a fun read!  Come on y’all!!

HOOT HOOT!!

Hoot_Late afternoon shot

Howdy y’all!  We’re just over three weeks away from an absolutely incredible weekend of music at the serene property in the NW Georgia mountains known as Cherokee Farms on the weekend of September 13-14, and I thought I’d get you all fired up with some observations from enthusiastic musicians and patrons from the April Hoot.  Dave Jordan (Neighborhood Improvement Association) summed up nicely just yesterday the feeling one gets about coming to a camping TDawg event:

“Looking forward to playing another one of Thomas Helland‘s festivals. I was on his first one, 15 years ago and it’ll be nice to catch up with some old friends. Rumor has it, Duane Trucks will be joining Gregory Hodges and Will Repholz and I to rock Cherokee Farms. Yeah u rite!”

Hootenanny Artist Preview: Vagabond Swing (4 days out y’all!)

9 Sep

Vagabond Swing

Please welcome Vagabond Swing to the Hootenanny Family!  I have not witnessed a Vagabond Swing concert, but by all accounts and from what I have found on YouTube, the 45-minute set from 4:15pm-5pm on Saturday afternoon under the Grateful Fred Tent is going to be bouncing all directions with creative musical anarchy – too much fun for your own good!

These fellas come from Lafayette, LA, and they are bringing their own unique sound to the table here.  Instrumentation includes dual guitars, drums, mandolin, trumpet, and upright bass.  I’m sure there are some surprises in there, too.   With musical influences including gypsy/folk/bluegrass, punk/ska, avant garde/classical, and jazz, well, this is what you might get.  They describe their music as “a surprisingly smooth mixture of progressive Gypsy/Experimental/Circus-vibe/Swing tunes.”  That pretty much sums it up.  The video below is a good indicator of the fun and intensity that is a performance by Vagabond Swing.

Vagabond Swing is going to stick around after their set, so expect them to pop up possibly on stage elsewhere!  Y’all we’re going to have ourselves an incredible time this weekend, and you can purchase advance tickets until Thursday, Sept 12 @ 11pm EDT.

***All advance purchases will receive a copy of a compilation from TDawg Presents’ 2nd Annual Atlanta’s Holiday Hootenanny that occurred in December of 2012, featuring Papa Mali, Larry Keel, Oteil Burbridge, Jimmy Hall, Rev. Jeff Mosier, Col. Bruce Hampton, Ike Stubblefied, Grant Green Jr., Deep Blue Sun and more!
