TDawg Presents Secondhand Swagger & Major and the Monbacks, Nov 13, 2014

TDawg Presents is excited to bring you a night of old school funk at The Red Light Cafe featuring Southern-fried Soul  from Atlanta’s own Secondhand Swagger and Norfolk, VA’s finest rock’n’soul revue Major and the Monbacks!  Showtime 9pm, Doors 8pm, $10 adv/$12 door.  We’ll be removing the tables so there’s plenty of space to throwdown in your funkiest finest!  A perfect way to ring in the weekend a night early, and the show starts early!  I can tell you right now we’re going to blow the roof off the RLC!

Major & the Monbacks

Major and the Monbacks are the newest torch bearers of the old “Norfolk Sound”, following a long line of musicians with a sound that bridges the gap between the R&B of Gary U.S. Bonds, the rockabilly of Gene Vincent, and the modern garage pop of Dr. Dog to create an exciting brew of rock n’ soul. With 4 vocalists, a hypeman, and a lively horn section, the Monbacks have revived the party infused energy of southern soul, blending this old school style with danceable pop melodies and ska and soul horn riffs, stirring dreamlike visions of Otis Redding or Chuck Berry playing a beer soaked fraternity party.

Secondhand Swagger(3)

Atlanta-based Secondhand Swagger is more than a name; it’s a lifestyle. With a passion for vintage sounds and style and serving as disciples of soul music from the 1960s and 70’s their mission is to keep this music alive and people dancing, taking it back to a time when lyrics and melodies came from the heart with a wink and a laugh.  Let me tell ya folks, the mission is working!

Tell your friends, get a sitter, and c ome on out for a rockin’ evening of southern soulful sounds blending together two distinct styles of soul into a blissful bounty of jam!
